Time For Real Change - Staffordshire Moorlands Reform
The UK Government is forcing through Local Government Reorganisation without public consent, silencing voters by suspending local elections and stripping communities of their democratic voice. This isn’t about saving money it’s a power grab.
We oppose this in Staffordshire and throughout the country. Staffordshire Reform had a legal obligation to put forward a proposal, they did that, now we ask you to stand with us and fight against the government with our campaign saying NO to LGR!
LGR is costly, unnecessary, and reckless during a cost-of-living crisis. Tens of millions will be spent upfront, paid for by the public, while councils merge, systems break, and services suffer. Parish and town councils are already being told to raise council tax to prepare for vague new responsibilities meaning residents could end up paying more.
Rural communities risk losing their identity and access to services under oversized unitary authorities. We’ve seen this chaos before: centralisation, U-turns, higher costs, worse outcomes. This Government is acting out of fear of losing power, not in the public interest.
We demand an immediate halt to LGR, full transparency, and genuine public consultation.
Democracy doesn’t belong to the Government, it belongs to the people. Stop LGR. Let voters decide. We stand against The UK Government and stand by the people who don’t want to be forced into joining with other councils, some are in significant debt. We at Staffordshire Reform have listened to the people but are fighting back for the entire country that simply doesn’t want this enforced change.
